What To Eat in Oahu

What To Eat in Oahu

When planning a trip anywhere, it is important to consider food options like what are you going to eat there? Especially if you have dietary restrictions. As Oahu is part of the state of Hawaii, they do have the generic American food. Below you find a few key suggestions of what to eat in Oahu. Please contact me if you have any questions!

Drink Fresh Coconut Water

I don’t know what else to say to about this other than…. just do it. It’s tasty, refreshing, and hydrating. To regret this would be impossible (unless you are super allergic to coconuts) and to not do it would be regrettable. You can snag these almost everywhere and if you’ve got a spoon, you can just spoon out the meat and eat that too!

Eat Musubi

When I asked my friends the questions “What to eat in Oahu” they all said “MUSUBI!” Musubi is this interesting Japanese food that you can literally just pick up from the 7-11. It is seaweed wrapped rice and usually spam. Basically Spam Sushi! And it’s not bad… As you can see, I am rather enjoying it.

My Japanese work neighbors always gave me all their extra Musubi and I always ate it rather promptly.

So go ahead, my friend, eat some Musubi!

Eat Shaved Ice at Matsumotos and also Enjoy Acai Bowls AND Ice cream

ACAI (ass-aaa-eee)
(you can find these three tasty treats right near Mastumotos)

This is one of those things where you’ve just gotta do it. Shaved ice (don’t call it the other thing… a snow cone….) in Hawaii is just different. It’s better than at other places and they put so many tasty and wonderful things in it… Things you never would have thought to put into shaved ice. It’s like an Acai Bowl. Super surprisingly tasty. You’ve just got to try one and let your taste buds vacation too. Because, why not? Ya bra?

AND DON’T FORGET THE ICE CREAM! SUCH GOOD ICE CREAM! My face says it all (hehe) This ice cream parlor is just up the street (away from the ocean) from Matsumoto’s, same side of the road.

Kahuku Farms

Now onto healthier food recommendations… Kahuku Farms is on the North Shore of Oahu and ….(drum roll)…. there is a bus stop right in front of it! Can you believe that? Cuz I sure can! You can take a foot tour on your own, or a bus tour with the company of the farm as well as eat at their restaurant. Everything there is 100% fresh and grown from that very place. I would suggest eating AND walking around there. At some point I even got into a light saber battle with a young lad on the property.

This is a definite must when compiling your list of “what to eat in Oahu” because it isn’t that popular and it is so good!

Food Trucks!

There are food trucks everywhere that serve such a wonderful variety of foods. There is one in particular on Oahu’s north shore near Sharks Cove that has some of the best variety’s of food trucks I’ve ever seen.

Hula Dogs

I worked at hula dogs to earn my plane ticket home. I am not a big hot dog fan but hula dogs? YEUP! They are so tasty. Have delicious, gourmet sausages roasting and you can pick the one you want to put in your bun.

This place is literally known all over the place. While working there, people would approach me and say “We are from some random place and have heard so much about these hot dogs!” And it always lived up to their expectations. So yes. Add this to your list of “what to eat in Oahu” because it’s important to me that you do this.

Now, here is how the buns work: they have an uncut bun that they stab onto a heated spike so it heats from the inside out. Then you pick your tropical relish and mustard’s which are squeezed into the inside of the bun. After that, they put the sausage into the perfect spike hole in the bun and bam! You have a hula dog.

This is located in Waikiki. Google it. Find it. Eat it. ENJOY!

I hope this list of unique foods of Oahu will help you plan a fun and exciting trip!
