What To Pack For Winter Camping

What To Pack For Winter Camping

What makes packing for winter camping easier than summer camping is that you don’t have to bring as many clothes. In summer camping, you have your day clothes, which are usually light weight pants, a shirt, socks, boots, a bra, a flannel, and probably a hat. In your pack you have food, cooking stuff, a jacket for the cold night, extra socks and undies, warm sleeping pants, a tent, a pad, sleeping bag, a light or two, maybe a book, a deck of cards, a speaker… you get it.

For winter camping, you wear all your warm stuff, and in your pack you have extra socks, underwear, maybe a not sweaty base layer, and then all the other camping basics, i.e. cooking stuff, food, a sleeping bag, and a tent (if you are not cabin camping).

Anyways, let me tell you what I packed for this trip so that you can prepare for your winter camping trip, too!

Hangin out in my bunk

Winter Camping List:

  • Snow Coat
  • Snow pants
  • Exercise pants for the hike up, if you would rather have those than base layers. But still take base layers for the sleeping part of the night.
  • Vest
  • Light weight jacket
  • 2 sets of base layer tops and bottoms. One for hiking, one for hanging out.
  • Wool Socks! – One for hiking, one for sleeping
  • Warm boots- I love my Sorrel’s
  • A warm hat, or just something to cover your ears
  • Gloves! – I’d bring two, a light weight pair and water proof
  • A buff to keep your neck warm
  • Cooking stuff
  • Sleeping bag

And that’s basically it!

And of course you need to bring other stuff like cards, a journal, a book, games, sunflower seeds, lights, fire starting things, and you know… the basics!

I have recently been able to go on a winter camping trip with some friends. It was incredible! If you would like to read about it, click HERE. In this article, you will read about our cabin camping winter camping trip!
