10 un-BELIZE-able basics

10 un-BELIZE-able basics

Earlier this year I decided that I needed to go to Belize. Don’t ask me why I chose it. Maybe it was the draw of the Caribbean. Can I say no regrets??? This trip was one of the most amazing trips I have ever had! It was tropical, almost exclusively coastal, in the Caribbean, sunny, the people were awesome as well as the food, the landscape to die for, endless activities, and so much more.

My friends and I went to Belize with next to no plan at all.

The only thing I insisted on doing was going to the Mayan Ruins of Lamanai, the rest was fair game to me. And to be honest, not having a game plan did not hinder our fun or site seeing in the slightest.

Without an agenda, we discovered Sarteneja, Smith’s Farm in San Ignacio, Hopkins, Placensia, bioluminescence, the zoo, and the Belize Audubon Society… with too much planning, none of that would have happened.

A few things you must know about Belize before you go there…

  1. The people are super nice and very helpful.
  2. Sand flies are the spawn of Satan.
  3. Take really good bug spray.
  4. Take a hat. The hats there are not great quality.
  5. SUNSCREEN!!! I almost burned my nose off because I didn’t have any.
  6. Stay in beach cabins. They’re cheap and cool.
  7. There is unlimited water & rum punch on tours.
  8. Jelly Fish reside in the water.
  9. The police seemed really helpful.
  10. Street food is delicious.

Do yourself a favor and GO TO BELIZE!
