The 2 Best Montana Ski Resorts

The 2 Best Montana Ski Resorts

Montana has some amazing ski resorts. Two of which I love: Bridger Bowl Ski Resort and Big Sky Ski Resort. Both of which are close to the mountain town of Bozeman, Montana.

They are two very unique resorts with very unique vibes.

Bridger Bowl Ski Resort is locally owned and operated.

Bridge Bowl Ski Resort

It is only about 20 minutes away from downtown Bozeman. They have 11 lifts, 2,000 acres of skiable terrain with over 75 runs available all the way up to the ridge and down.

Something that makes Bridger Bowl special is Schlasman’s Lift. Schlasman’s Lift takes you up to the famous Bridger Bowl Ridge. It’s the backbone of the entire Bridger mountain range and offers back country skiing with the convenience of a lift. There are tons of gnarly chutes and cliffs for the experienced skier.

Bridger Bowl Ski Resort: Me being an average skier.

Travel Tip: You need an avalanche beacon in order to ride Schlasman’s lift.

I enjoy this resort more than most because I know for a fact that I won’t get lost… which is a genuine fear of mine.

Big Sky Ski Resort is HUGE!

It’s about 45-60 minutes from downtown Bozeman through the Gallatin Canyon (where they filmed ‘A River Runs Through It’) in the even smaller mountain town of Big Sky, Montana.

Big Sky Ski Resort

I went to this resort for the first time this week, and boy, was I impressed! I’ve skied mostly in Utah and was still wowed by it’s size. There are 36 lifts, 5,850 skiable acres, and 300 named runs on 4 connected mountains. And of course Lone Peak!

There are 7 Terrain parks and a good variety of greens to double black diamonds! Literally, there is something for every level.

Let it be known, I am not an amazing skier. In fact, I am a very average skier!

That being said, most of knowledge of the gnar pow and stoke levels for each resort are about equal from locals in the area. People who live in Bozeman love Bridger Bowl because it’s more affordable and local. They also love Big Sky because of the vastness of it! So whichever resort you chose, you will feel like you’ve won!

How we save money at these Resorts…

Big sky day passes vary but are roughly around $150. Bridger Bowl day passes are around $70. So to save money I do 2 things…

  1. I hound Facebook and craigslist for cheaper day lift passes. Be careful and use online purchasing common sense.
  2. I take my own food. I keep a bag of nuts in my pocket and then a lunch in my car or back pack. At Big Sky we took apples, sandwiches, and nuts. It’ll save you money on ski resort food

Skiing at either of the resort is fun, no matter your skill level.

So go and have fun! Plan your trip to Big Sky and Bridger Bowl and make the best out of this cold, cold winter!

Happy Travels Travelers!
