If you are just starting on this journey, I suggest that you jump back a week and check out how this journey started in Washington. Unless you just want the Pacific Coast Highway through Oregon segment, in which case, read on.

I was in for quite a few surprises as I continued the Pacific Coast Highway through Oregon. To give you a teaser… staying in coastal mansions, sailing, picking up hitchhikers and art barn farm parties.
My coach surfing hosts didn’t live in Astoria. They lived in Seaside. We met up at a Safeway parking lot and went straight to their little studio apartment.
Between arriving to their apartment and leaving, we ended up landing keys to an amazing beach house where we were going to spend the night. But first… we needed to go to their friends birthday party.
The party was at a bar called Port of Call in the city of Astoria. Go check it out! It’s a really fun place. We danced our little hearts out and then enjoyed cheese quesadillas at the beach house.
In the morning, I strolled down to the beach for some alone time and to watch the ocean do it’s ocean things.
That day, after checking out an estate sale and looking at tidal pools, I took off to my next destination. The drive south was, obviously beautiful. I went and saw haystack rock and explored that area. I highly recommend this stop if you are taking the Pacific Coast Highway through Oregon.
One of the best (and most spontaneous) stops I made on the Pacific Coast Highway through Oregon was the Tilamook Factory! Go to there! I got a pound of cheese and the biggest ice cream ever! And they were both delicious. Although a pound of cheddar cheese proved to be too much cheese for me to finish in a reasonable amount of time.
This might have been my favorite stop on the Pacific Coast Highway through Oregon. I didn’t really have a set place to stay as I was heading that way. One person I contacted said they couldn’t host people because of a party. Another said they couldn’t host me because they had the kids that weekend and they were going to a party but I could come to the party and maybe sleep there.
I wasn’t going to pass up on this opportunity! Holly was her name. Holly had taken in my and a Russian traveler named Igor. We followed her to this remote barn in the woods. Seems a bit sketchy right? Most definitely! The party’s formal name was the “Art Barn Farm Party” and it was epic!
Obviously there were fire dancers, black lights, adults, kids, Columbian circus jugglers, ping pong, pizza, drums, didgeridoos, dogs… literally everything. I learned how to juggle, ate lots of pizza and met Eric.
Eric was one of the couch surfing hosts I had met who said he couldn’t host me or Igor. But since we showed up at the party, he said we could follow him home and stay at his house.
Igor got the couch and I got the guest room… CHIVALRY LIVES ON!!! That day was spent getting the best tour of New Port, Oregon I could have ever dreamed of.
First stop: Otter Crest Loop. We saw whales. I love seeing whales.
Second stop: Devils Punch Bowl. We punched the Devil. Just kidding. We ran around the beach. At least I did.
Third stop: The Yaquina Light House. #Bucketlistitem
Fourth stop: Lunch by the Marina.
I was supposed to leave after this to go to Crescent City but I got bribed with a sail boat ride to not leave. So I didn’t. I stayed another night in New Port. We hopped on Eric’s sail boat and took off into the wild sea! There were huge swells that turned me green till I blew chunks over board.
Apparently it was a bit too dangerous to be sailing. We sailed around the marina saying hi to seals.
Eventually Brianne texted me and turns out they were passing through! Eric invited her car of peeps to come sail and stay with us! We sailed through the setting sun before heading in for a big couch surfing fiesta!
Which was a bummer, but the adventure must go on! We parted ways and I headed farther south on the Pacific Coast Highway through Oregon to Brookings.
When you do the Pacific Coast Highway through Oregon, I would advice to stop at random and appreciate everything.
Bridges, lonely beaches, rain, wind, the general air…. Basically slow down and be in the moment. It’s easy to get focused on your destination and to forget about the journey.
Luckily I had a back up plan. I called her and even though she had another couch surfer at her house, she let me stay. I briefly met her and she introduced me to German Patrik (not a typo) and her super creepy gamer roommate and she left.
Patrik and I decided we didn’t want to hang out with the creepy gamer roommate so we hopped in my car and went to the beach.
We explored the beach and chatted about our life choices before foolishly climbing up a cliff that we realized we couldn’t get back down only after getting up it.
Basically we were stuck. Eventually we climbed up another cliff, trespassed through someones yard, walked back to my car, kicked a soccer ball around, walked out on a jetty and then went to a haunted house.
Our host is in charge of the community haunted house and just gave us a tour of it without any of the hauntedness in it. Turns out they’re not scary when they’re “naked”.
Patrik and I made dinner and he let me have the bed while he slept on the floor, to protect me from the creepy gamer roommate. Again, chivalry is not dead!
We set out in the morning to get to our next destination: Eureka, California to stay with old man Jim!
